About

Hiya, I'm Carley

I’m a writer and researcher exploring the stories and ideas behind why we do what we do in life, love and work for those curious to understand more about themselves, others, and the world.

I'm a storyteller at heart. Stories reach us in ways that move, teach, and inspire us. Whether through non-fiction books and articles or through short stories and (soon!) novels, I write to connect, challenge, and make space for people to feel seen and understood.

I am an independent writer seeking representation by an agent who wants to work with someone with varied ideas united by the thematic threads above. Projects that need a home include a 750-word 32-page picture book called One World Upside Down, in which an ordinary walk turns wibbly-wobbly when a little boy falls into a river, landing in an upside-down world where the bits of rubbish he finds are no help at all in getting home. I have completed several additional picture books, a poetry pamphlet of nature-inspired work entitled Poems of a Universe Who Forgets how Big it is and I am working on my first novel, Burntcoat Head, about a brother-sister roadtrip through Nova Scotia that brings family drama to the fore. Ideas drive me to explore different formats of story-telling; if you're an agent or publisher who can help steer an eclectic writing career please get in touch!

I told myself: There must be people whose job it is to use the right words, put things in a way... who when their heart beats, can get other people's hearts to beat.
